Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Primary Responsibilities for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

  • Operate and maintain, with guidance, Carpenter's central wastewater treatment plant (WTP), sludge drying and various pre‑treatment facilities used to treat process wastewater and waste by‑products from production operations to meet or exceed all federal and state environmental regulations and permit requirements.
  • Monitor wastewater treatment systems and data trends to make process adjustments to optimize water quality and maintain compliance.
  • Perform process control instrumentation maintenance and calibrations.
  • Monitor equipment for potential failures and make minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Collect wastewater samples and perform required chemical analyses.

Requirements for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2-3 Years of water or wastewater treatment experience

Preferred for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

  • Has developed specialized knowledge and skills in own department or area. Completes work assignments with minimal supervision/guidance. May coordinate activities with others.
  • Helps to ensure a safe workplace. Identifies ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and associated water chemistry.
  • Reviews process control data to maintain optimal water quality, solve wastewater process control problems, and makes recommendations to improve standard procedures and/or processes to prevent future issues.
  • Performs required routine environmental compliance inspections and documents findings.
  • Manages time to meet 100% compliance objective, provides help to others as well as promotes teamwork through understanding of broader team goals.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving, interpersonal and mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office – Outlook, Word and Excel and SAP.
