Kamehameha Schools is currently looking for an Assistant Archivist to assist with supporting our KS archives program and collections. Job Summary Provides administrative and operational support of Kamehameha Schools (KS) Archives Program and archival collections, which encompass documents, photographs, media, and artifacts spanning over 100 years of history. The Assistant Archivist ensures proper processing, conservation, and accessibility of materials by executing standard operating procedures for collection management, supporting outreach initiatives, and leveraging technology to promote the KS Archives Program. Operational Responsibilities Process KS archival artifacts of various mediums according to enterprise and industry standards and best practices. Regularly update the inventory of KS archival artifacts according to criteria set by the Archivist. Document key KS archival processes, such as accession and de-accession, inventory, and access. Maintain and survey storage spaces, conducting environmental monitoring and security reviews. Complete tasks as assigned by the Archivist and provide support by taking on additional responsibilities as needed. Participate in archival projects and initiatives that support the mission of the KS Archives Program. Digital Responsibilities Assist in the development, implementation and reporting on strategic virtual engagement for KS archival information. Identify and propose opportunities to integrate emerging technologies to enhance the KS Archives Program experience. Contribute to strategic communication methods and content to promote the KS Archives Program. Engagement Responsibilities Work collaboratively with faculty to assist with developing curriculum that includes KS history and Hawaiian culture. Teach staff, alumni, and the community about KS history through prepared presentations and displays. Provide research support regarding new information on and artifacts related to KS history. Assist with representing the KS Archives Program in media requests about KS history. Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in archives, history, library science, or other related discipline. Minimum 2 years of experience related to the responsibilities. Knowledge of and experience with standards for archives management. Experience with using various archival tools and equipment. Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Physically able to perform manual tasks required to fulfill responsibilities. Ability to fulfill other archival duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in archives, history, library science, or other related discipline. Relevant archives certifications. Knowledge of records management and information governance. Skilled in archival software. Experience working for or with a K – 12 educational institution. Knowledge of KS history or Hawaiiana/Pacifica history, culture, or language. Physical Requirements Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and talk or hear. Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift/carry objects that weigh up to 25 pounds. Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder. Working Conditions Work may involve exposure to mold, dust, and chemical residues. This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands. Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday but may require evening and weekend hours.
